23 Years Strong
For the past 22 years, Coloradans have been spending their summer nights under the stars with Denver Film at Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre, enjoying live music, local performers, and everyone’s favorite movies.
Presented in partnership with Denver Arts & Venues, Film on the Rocks has become an iconic piece of the Colorado experience, combining some of the best in culture, views, and audiences the Front Range area has to offer.
In fact, Film on the Rocks audiences excel at making the event their own, from the outstanding Ghostbusters costumes, to a never-ending supply of beach balls at Top Gun, and the spontaneous sing-alongs at 10 Things I Hate About You.
At Denver Film, we were proud to continue this tradition through the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020 and 2021, while prioritizing public health.
With the generous help of our partners, Denver Film and Denver Arts & Venues pioneered a Drive-In format in 2020, and welcomed cars back into the South Parking Lot of Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre for another year of movies in 2021.
Based on guidance from the City, and the reopening of the amphitheatre for concerts, Film on the Rocks also moved back into the amphitheatre for 3 sold-out shows. We look forward to seeing everyone there for our 23rd year of great movies at Red Rocks.

A Beautiful Partnership
Film on the Rocks was founded in 2000 as a partnership between Denver Film and Denver Arts & Venues to create an accessible, community-driven movie event at Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre.
At the time, the average ticket price for a concert at Red Rocks was beginning to rise, and Denver Arts & Venues wanted to ensure that the venue that so many Coloradans enjoy would remain an energized community gathering place for all.
This awareness of accessibility is the reason why, even today, Film on the Rocks tickets remain some of the most affordable on the eclectic Red Rocks calendar.
Similarly, Film on the Rocks gives local artists and performers an opportunity to play on the iconic Red Rocks stage and connect with Colorado audiences.
Over the years, many beloved movies have played at Film on the Rocks, from cult classics like The Big Lebowski, to stunning international films like Spirited Away, and timeless blockbusters like Star Wars. Some of the notable local artists that have performed at Film on the Rocks are comedians Josh Blue and Nancy Norton, as well as bands like DeVotchKa and The Reminders. We also partner with the renowned School of Rock to give students an opportunity to perform on the stage once a year.
Denver Film has worked with representatives from Colorado’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Communities over the past three years to ensure that Film on the Rocks is accessible for all attendees.

The arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 upended the live events industry, and with the generous help of many creative partners we were able to safely present Film on the Rocks in a drive-in format.
Taking place in the Lower South Lot of Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre against a stunning backdrop of the iconic venue, Film on the Rocks Drive-In proved to be an exciting, safe, and effective solution to keep alive the tradition of the event, as well as reinvigorating the otherwise shuttered venue.
After much acclaim in 2020, 2021’s program again featured Film on the Rocks – Drive-In and offered guests a chance to enjoy a one-of-a-kind drive-in experience at the iconic Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre. Nearly all of the shows in the Drive-In program sold out within hours after they were announced. Film on the Rocks also moved back into the amphitheatre in July and August for 3 sold-out shows and incredible musical performances.
Denver Film looks forward to the return of Film on the Rocks shows in 2023, where it will once again bring community movie experiences to Colorado audiences.
